The 52nd iteration of the US-Italy Joint Military Committee is concluded Nov. 14 at Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy. The meeting was cochaired by U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Chris McKinney, U.S. European Command’s deputy director for partnering and security cooperation, and Italian Maj. Gen. Alessandro Grassano, deputy chief for military policy and planning within the Defence General Staff. Topics discussed included the Unmanned Aerial Systems threat, basing agreements, force protection, environmental remediation and initiatives to further defense cooperation between the two nations.

The Joint Military Committee is a bilateral engagement that occurs biannually to preserve mutual commitment, support and trust toward strengthening the military relationship between Italy and the U.S. The 53rd iteration is tentatively scheduled to be hosted by the Italian Defence General Staff in the Spring of 2025.
