STUTTGART, Germany – On March 15, 2018, General Curtis M. Scaparrotti, Commander, U.S. European Command, testified before the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) in Washington, D.C. This hearing follows the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) hearing, which occurred last week, March 8, 2018.
His remarks and comments made during the HASC and SASC testimonies include the European Deterrence Initiative (EDI), the strength of the NATO alliance, ways USEUCOM is combating violent extremist organizations, and the risks of disinformation.
Hearings give elected representatives insight into military operations, providing transparency regarding the challenges faced in the European area of responsibility. These decisions impact budgetary action, allowing for a fiscally responsible use of government funds.
